PRESIDENTS :
His Grace the ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY, His Grace the ARCHBISHOP OF YORK.

TREASURER : Rev. T. A. SEDGWICK.
This Society augments the stipends of Curates who have been more than 15 years in
Holy Orders, and are still in full active work.

of the 7,000 Curates very many have been ordained more than 15 years, and this number is annually increasing.

It is the only Society in England that directly increases the stipends of Curates of long standing. It is one of the best societies in the country, and one most needed. The "QUEEN VICTORIA CLERGY FUND" does not help the Unbeneficed Clergy.

The Church is multiplying Curates three times as rapidly as she is multiplying Benefices.

THE ATTACK UPON THE

THE CHURCH IN WALES.
SPECIAL APPEAL FOR £10,000.
THE
THE principle of a National Church has once more been attacked by a powerful

Government. Though their Bill to Disestablish and Disendow the Church in Wales has been withdrawn for this Session, Mr Asquith has pledged himself to make it the first Government measure and press it through the House of Commons next year. Churchmen, therefore, cannot relax their efforts to defeat this attack, and the Central Church Committee, as the body specially charged with the defence of the established position and the endowments of the Church, have a prolonged and arduous task before them. Increasing demands are being made upon them for speakers and publications on the Church in Wales, and their means are being taxed far beyond their ordinary resources. It is believed that numbers of Churchmen and Churchwomen are watching what is being done with sympathy and with a desire to bear their share of the burden. To these an APPEAL to give prompt and practical assistance is now made.

T. MARTIN TILBY, Secretary. Offices : THE CHURCH HOUSE, WESTMINSTER, S.W.

NEW BOOK BY CAPTAIN A, T. MAHAN,

Author of The Influence of Sea Power upon History,' &c. THE HARVEST WITHIN: Being Thoughts on the Life of a Christian.

By A. T. MAHAN, Captain U.S. Navy. Crown 8vo. 6s. net. (Inland postage, 4d.) This volume is a study, not so much of religious theory as of Christian experience from the writer's own experience. It is a study of the power of Jesus Christ in the individual and in the Church: of Christian responsibility and the Christian hope. The mature expression of his religious convictions by a man whom both England and America have learned to trust is a noticeable event; and the simple sincerity of these pages will win for them, it may be hoped, widespread attention.
