John Locke: Champion of Democracy

Many historians date the beginning of the Age of Enlightenment with the publication of Locke s An Essay Concerning Human Understanding, which ultimately influenced the writings of the more celebrated thinkers who wrote at the height of the Enlightenment fifty years later. Locke s writings would also be considered the major influence on the American Revolution and modern democracy, more so than the work of any other philosopher.
