His affectionate minister preached his funeral sermon the next evening from the words, "Are there not twelve hours in the day?" I will conclude my paper as nearly as at this distance of time I can recollect his impressive sermon was concluded: -"I turn," said he, after an address to the mourners, "to young hearers of the word in general. A young hearer of the word;-what an interesting character!-a young candidate for immortal glory! You have a race to run,— a battle to fight. Run the race that is set before you with patience; and God help you so to run that you may obtain. Young soldier! remember your oath. The oath of your baptism when your Master's cross was signed upon your brow. You have sworn not to be ashamed to confess the faith of Christ crucified; to fight manfully under his banner against sin, the world, and the devil; and to continue Christ's faithful soldier and servant to your life's end. of twelve hours' length.

as Joshua said of old, 'Sun, stand thou still.' It is an affecting thing when the prayers of a congregation are desired for a young person. He who asked the prayers of his fellow-sinners only a few days since in this church was a young He knew that it is an awful thing to die, and requested of us the only assistance we could give him in passing the dark valley and the shadow of death. It will be a satisfaction for those who prayed for him to know that their prayers were fully answered. He died in peace. 'The poor of this parish, whose children he diligently instructed, can testify how well he remembered his Saviour's injunction to work whilst it is called to-day; and with what calmness he looked forward to that night in which he could not work, the night which came so soon, is testified by his frequently observing to a friend, whilst walking in the adjacent church-yard, 'This I call my bed-chamber, and yonder,'pointing to the grave in which yesterday we laid him-yonder is my bed! My young friends, follow the example which to-night I have the privilege of displaying to you. Follow this young believer as this young believer followed Christ."

A REMEMBRANCE OF STOURTON,

AND THE FIRST DAY OF 1834.

INSCRIBED ΤΟ A VERY DEAR LITTLE GIRL.

Do you recollect Stourton, little Cassy? I suppose not, for it is more than half a year since we went there,-almost a sixth part of your short life; but you enjoyed the ride when we went, and I promised to write an account of your going, and promises are serious things, and it is very wrong to break them.

To-day I found a beautiful piece of grey lichen, and a soft flake of green moss in one of my boxes, and I thought, 'Where did these come from?' and I said to myself, "Oh, I found them at Stourton, and I put them here because I said they will remind me that I promised to tell on paper what a beautiful day the first of January was, and what a pleasant treat we had."
