To the Editor of the Gleaner and the Sower..

DEAR SIR,-As a well-wisher to you and your little Magazines, I wish to ask if you would kindly find room on the wrapper for the following suggestion. I have often thought that, as there are many take in the LITTLE GLEANER for their own families, who have boys and girls in their employ, it would be an easy and excellent plan for distributing truth among the young, if those who could afford to do so would give a LITTLE GLEANER each month to each boy or girl in their employ. The cost would not be much, the trouble less, if given to them the first time they are paid in the month; and what is given heartily in the cause of truth I am sure will never be lost. There is a great need in the present day that those who value truth and the well-being of the rising generation should do all in their power to counteract the pernicious literature that is sown broadcast through the land. I have for the past year or two given the Magazines away-monthly as above suggested. I find the boys very pleased with them, and always on the look-out for them at the beginning of the month.

BOOKS RECEIVED." Gospel Gems," Is. (Wileman, 34, Bouverie Street, E.C.). This is a little treasure, which, we feel sure, will find ready acceptance and a large sale. It is a work which will have a peculiar interest to many, being notes written by the late John Berridge in the margin of his Bible, which Mr. Wileman, having carefully compiled, now sends them forth in a neat form, and at a low price. Many sweet portions are to be found among these notes, which are now for the first time published.- "Memorials of the Loving-kindness of the Lord." An Account of the Life and Death of the late Mrs. F. T. Bryan, of Humberstone, near Leicester. 3d. (J. Gadsby, 18, Bouverie Street, E.C.)—“ A Brief Account of the Life, Call to the Ministry, and Death of the late Samuel Turner, of Sunderland" (To be had only of R. Heffer, Saffron Walden, Essex). Price not given, perhaps about 6d. The yearly volume of "The Gospel Banner" for 1882. We have heard some say they should like to see the magazines of the present day filled with the writings of the old divines. Any who prefer such reading may find in this volume no small quantity of this weighty kind of matter."Sorrow and Joy; or, The Autobiography of Ellen Taylor, late a member of the Church at Gower Street, London" (price 2d. J. C. Pembrey, Walton Street, Oxford); "The Regular Baptist Magazine" (America); "The Banner of Truth (New York) "The Gospel Magazine" (Messrs. Collingridge, 148 and 149, Aldersgate Street, E.C.); "I've got no Money," a little halfpenny book by Dr. Doudney, the respected Editor of the above Magazine. It is an incident connected with the St. Luke's soup kitchen, which the Doctor has turned to good account. (W. Mack and Co.) An edition of Hart's Hymns, with Appendix and the Experience of the Author, by the same worthy Editor, at the low price of 6d. Here is a large quantity of "gold well tried by fire" put within the reach of nearly every lover of Hart's Hymns, and we hope the Doctor will speedily find the whole edition cleared off (Messrs. Collingridge).“ ( -"Gospel Herald" (E. Stock, Paternoster Row; and W. Wileman, 34,

Bouverie Street, E.C.)

PRINTING FUND.-The Editor tenders his sincere and hearty thanks to those warm-hearted helpers who sympathize with his endeavour to scatter broadcast suitable reading for young and old, and he hopes that, while atheists and Romanists are energetically working against the best interests of the rising race, and of men in general, all lovers of truth will strive to help to circulate that teaching which accords with the Word of God. The following are gratefully acknowledged:-Mr. H. Hand, 30s.; An Old and Sincere Friend, 8s.; Miss Steel, IOS.; Mr. J. Carr, 8s.; Mr. T. Webster, 40s.; Mr. T. Clarke, 20s.; E. W., 10s. ; Two Friends, £5; Mr. J. Copcutt, 40s.; Mr. J. Rumens, 7s. 6d. We are greatly encouraged by this liberal help.

OUR ANNUAL VOLUMES.-These, we are happy to say, find increasing favour year by year, and we trust our friends will endeavour to make them known still more widely, as the greater the sale, the more we shall be encouraged. Both GLEANER and SOWER form excellent gift books, as they contain an abundance of useful reading. There are many families to whom a volume might be useful, were they presented with one.

GLEANER AND SOWER ALMANACK.-We find there are about two thousand of these left on hand, and shall be glad if friends will help to clear them off. They might prove acceptable to scholars, &c.; and we will send them at the reduced price of five shillings per hundred where not less than one hundred are ordered.

WE also have some back numbers of GLEANER and SOWER, which can be had at three shillings per hundred; or we would forward them to schools and other places, for free distribution, where we know they would be gladly received, if friends would kindly remit the cost of a few to us for this purpose.

THE Editor will be pleased to receive Votes for the Election of Inmates to the Aged Pilgrim's Friend Asylum, Camberwell, in behalf of two or three needy cases. He also has a case for the Ten Guinea Pension, next June election, for which he solicits help.

ALL communications for GLEANER and SOWER should be addressed to Mr. T. HULL, 117, High Street, Hastings. Post Office Orders may be made payable to him at the BRANCH OFFICE, High Street.
