THE FOOL'S PRAYER.

HE royal feast was done. The King
Sought some new sport to banish care;
And to his Jester cried: "Sir Fool,
Kneel now, and make for us a prayer!"
The Jester doffed his cap and bells,
And stood the mocking court before;
They could not see the bitter smile
Behind the painted grin he wore.
He bowed his head, and bent his knee
Upon the monarch's silken stool;
His pleading voice arose: "O Lord,
Be merciful to me a Fool!

'T is not by guilt the onward sweep

Of truth and right, O LORD, we stay; 'T is by our follies that so long

We hold the earth from Heaven away.
These clumsy feet, still in the mire,

Go crushing blossoms without end;
These hard, well-meaning hands we thrust
Among the heart-strings of a friend.
Our faults no tenderness should ask;

The chastening stripes must cleanse them all. But for our blunders! Oh! in shame

Before the eyes of Heaven we fall!

Earth bears no balsam for mistakes.

Men crown the knave and scourge the fool! They did his will. But, then, O LORD,

CAMBRIDGE HOSPITAL.

For charity itself fulfils the law. - Love's Labor's Lost iv. 3.

HE following is a brief record of the good work done in this Hospital, for the relief of the suffering, during the past eleven months:

Application for admission to be made on week days, from 12 to 1 p.m. The services of the physicians are gratuitous.

The charges to paying patients to be determined by the Visiting Committee. Such patients may have to give an obligation, with surety, for the payment of such charges.

A limited number of those unable to pay may be placed upon free beds. Persons accidentally wounded or disabled may be admitted at any hour, if brought directly after it occurs.

Contagious diseases, incurables, syphilis, and delirium tremens not admitted.

Relatives and friends may visit on any afternoon of the week. but they must not bring any food or drink to the patients.

Tobacco, wines, and intoxicants prohibited, except when prescribed by the physicians.

Patients may be visited by the clergyman they have preference for.

COURTS.

United States Circuit.

- At Boston, May 15 and Oct. 15. United States District. Boston, third Tuesday in March, fourth Tuesday in June, second Tuesday in September, and first Tuesday in December.

MIDDLESEX COUNTY.

Legislature meets in January, and may make changes.

Supreme Judicial. — Jury Terms, at Lowell on the third Tuesday in April; Cambridge, on the third Tuesday in October.

Law Ferms for the Commonwealth at Boston on the first Wednesday in January of each year, may be adjourned to places and times for the interest of the public. Questions of Law arising in the counties of Barnstable, Middlesex, Norfolk, and Suffolk, and in other counties where special provisions are not made, shall be entered and determined.

Superior. Civil Terms at Lowell on the second Monday in March and the first Monday in September; at Cambridge on the first Monday in June and the second Monday in December.

Criminal Terms at Cambridge on the second Monday in February and the first Monday in June; at Lowell on the third Monday in October.

Probate. — Cambridge, on the first, second, and fourth Tuesdays of every month, except August; and at Lowell the third Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September, and November. - GEORGE M. BROOKS, Concord, Judge,

Insolvency. - Cambridge, the second and fourth Thursday of every month, except August.

County Commissioners' Meetings, Cambridge, first Tuesday in January and June; Lowell, first Tuesday in September. SUFFOLK COUNTY.

Supreme Judicial. Boston, second Tuesday in September and first Tuesday in April.

Superior.- Civil, at Boston, first Tuesday of January, April, July and October; Criminal, first Monday of every month.
