TO CHURCHMEN. THE AMERICAN CHURCH REVIEW unexpectedly reverted to the present proprietor about the first of last November, with a subscription list. reduced to less than one-third of the former number. He had not one article, nor a book notice even, engaged-no printer, no assistant, no plan for the future. He had to take up the Review under the pressure of other editorial duties and responsibilities almost overwhelming, or let it perish. He resolved for the good of the Church that it should not die, and he appeals to the Church for help to make it live. The plan of opening the Review to writers over their signatures, in England and America, representing different schools of thought, is received with almost universal favor. The present number, by detentions of proofs and other causes, has been delayed nearly four weeks, and some obvious errata, under the circumstances unavoidable, have been noticed. For instance, in the admirable article of Bishop Huntington, the Latinist will substitute for incredible, incredible, and for possi, possit; while all readers may perceive that symetry should be symmetry, senilities, servilities, and banner, barrier; and that in Dr. Schenck's article scar should be sear. With a little patience and forbearance on the part of their Contributors, their Patrons and the Press, the Editors promise that after a few issues, the AMERICAN CHURCH REVIEW shall be in style, in correctness, in regularity, and ability, all that the American Church can make it.
