Confcience towards God endure Grief, fuffering wrong: For what Glory is it, if when ye be buffeted for your Faults, ye fhall take it patiently? But if, when ye do well, and fuffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.,

Be thou Partaker of the Afflictions of the Gospel.

f If any Man fuffer as a Chriftian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

Bleffed are ye when Men fhall revile you, and perfecute you, and hall fay all manner of Evil against you, falfely, for the fake of Chrift. Rejoice and be exceeding glad, that ye were counted worthy to fuffer Shame for his Name; for great is your Reward in Heaven:

་་

If ye be reproached for the Name of Chrift, happy are ye; for the Spirit of Glory and of God refteth upon you: On their part, who reproach you, he is evil fpoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

i Fear none of thofe Things which thou shalt fuffer; but be thou faithful unto Death, and Chrift will give thee a Crown of Life. For if we fuffer, we fhall alfo reign with him.

* Let no Man be moved with thefe Afflictions; for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto: Yea, and all that will live godly in Chrift Jefus, fhall fuffer Perfecution.

1 Let your Patience and Faith appear in all your Perfecutions and Tribulations that ye endure; that ye may be counted worthy the Kingdom of God, for which ye alfo fuffer. Seeing it is a righteous Thing with God to recompenfe Tribulation to them that trouble you; and to you who are troubled, Reft.

Take the Prophets, who have spoken in the Name of the Lord, for an Example of suffering Affliction, and of Patience.

Ye have heard of the Patience of Job, and have feen the End of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender Mercy.

• Confider him that endured fuch Contradiction of Sinners against himself, left ye be wearied and faint in your Minds. And look unto Jefus, the Author and Finisher of our Faith; who for the Joy that was fet before him endured the Cross, defpifing the Shame, and is fet down at the Righthand of the Throne of God. For Chrift fuffered for us, leaving us an Example, that we fhould follow his Steps; who did no Sin, neither was Guile found in his Mouth.

P It is good for a Man that he bear the Yoke in his Youth.

Bleffed is the Man whom thou chastenest, O Lord, and teacheft him out of thy Law; that thou mayeft give him Rett from the Days of Adverfity.

The Lord humbleth thee and proveth thee, to know what is in thine Heart; whether thou love the Lord thy God with all thy Heart, and with all thy Soul, and whether thou wilt keep his Commandments, or no.

Thou shalt alfo confider in thine Heart, that as a Man chafteneth his Son, fo the Lord thy God chafteneth thee; that he may humble thee and prove thee, to do thee Good at thy latter End.

When the Righteous are holden in Cords of Affliction, then God fheweth them their Work, and their Tranfgreffions that they have exceeded. He openeth alfo their Ear to Difcipline, and commandeth that they return from Iniquity.

" When the Judgments of the Lord are in the Earth, the Inhabitants of the World will learn Righteoufnefs; and in their Affliction they will feek him early.

It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy Statutes, O Lord: For before I was afflicted, I went aftray, but now I have kept thy Word.

* Wherefore doth a living Man complain, a Man for the Punishment of his Sins? Surely it is meet to be faid unto God, I have borne Chaf tisement ; I will not offend any more. I will bear the Indignation of the Lord, because I have finned against him.

Correction is grievous unto him that forfaketh the Way: Nevertheless take heed, regard not Iniquity; nor choose this rather than Affliction.

z Wo unto him that striveth with his Maker. Let the Potfherd ftrive with the Potsherds of the Earth: Shall the Clay fay unto him that fashioned it, What makeft thou?

HONOUR and WORSHIP.

In General.

a Give unto the Lord the Glory due unto his Name: Worship him in the Beauty of Holiness. b A Son honoureth his Father, and a Servant his Mafter. If then I be a Father, where is mine Honour? And if I be a Mafter, where is my Fear faith the Lord of Hofts.

He that honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father which sent him.

d Let us ferve God with Reverence and godly Fear.

O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

f Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive Glory, and Honour, and Power: For thou haft created all Things.

Honour the Lord with thy Subftance, and with the Firft-fruits of all thine Increafe; fo fhall thy Barns be filled with Plenty, and thy Preffes fhall burst out with new Wine.

h God that made the World and all Things therein, feeing that he is Lord of Heaven and Earth, dwelleth not in Temples made with Hands; neither is worshipped with Mens Hands, as though he needed any Thing, feeing he giveth to all Life, and Breath, and all Things. But the true Worshippers fhall worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth; for the Father feeketh fuch to worship him.

i He defireth not Sacrifice; he delighteth not in Burnt-offering. The Sacrifices of God are a broken Spirit. He defireth Truth in the inward Parts.

We are the true Circumcifion, which worfhip God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Chrift Jefus, and have no Confidence in the Flesh.

1 Offer therefore the Sacrifices of Righteoufnefs with a perfect Heart: For curfed is the Deceiver, which voweth, and facrificeth unto the Lord a corrupt Thing.

m If ye offer the Blind for Sacrifice, is it not Evil? And if ye offer the Lame and the Sick, is it not Evil? Offer it now unto thy Governor, will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy Perfon faith the Lord of Hofts.

"Wash ye, make you clean, put away the Evil of your Doings: Ceafe to do Evil, learn to do well; or elfe, when ye come to appear before the Lord, he will fay, Who hath required this at your Hand, to tread my Courts?
