And when he was brought forth, he was wrap. ped in Swadling-clothes, and laid in a Manger.

Afterwards he was fubject unto his Parents, Mary and Jofeph. He increafed in Wisdom and Stature: He was tempted of the Devil; he was hungry and weary, and had not where to lay his Head: He wept and was grieved; and he was touched with the feeling of our Infirmities..

Himself took our Infirmities, and bare our Sickneffes, and was in all Points tempted like as we are; and in all Things he was made like unto his Brethren, yet without Sin.. For thus it behoved him to be made, that he might be a merciful and faithful High Prieft in Things pertaining to God, to make Reconciliation for the Sinsof the People: For in that he himself hath fuffered, being tempted, he is able to fuccour them that are tempted.

The CHARACTER of CHRIST, who is both. GOD and. MAN.

Unto us a Child is born; and his Name fhall be called Wonderful, Counfellor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace..

This is he that should come; he of whom Mofes in the Law and the Prophets did write :: The Chrift of God; Christ the Lord: the Chofen.

of God; the Meffias, which is, being interpreted, the Chrift, or the Anointed..

He was that Prophet that should come into the World; a Teacher come from God, to teach the Way of God in Truth.

To this End was he born, and for this Cause came he into the World, that he fhould bear Witness unto the Truth.

Chrift Jefus was the Apostle and High-Prieft of our Profeffion; called of God an High-Prieft after the Order of Melchifedek; being an HighPricft of good Things to come; a Minifter of the Sanctuary, and of the true Tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not Man.

The fame Jefus is the Lamb of God, which taketh away the Sin of the World; a Lamb without Blemish, and without Spot.

There is one Mediator between God and Men, the Man Chrift Jefus; who gave himself a Ranfom for all.

This is indeed the Saviour of the World, in whom we have Redemption; who is our Advocate with the Father; and the Author of eternal Salvation unto all them that obey him.

This is he that is born King of the Jews; and is now the Prince of the Kings of the Earth; who fhall judge the Quick and the Dead, at his Appearing and his Kingdom.

He is Lord of Lords, and King of Kings.

e Mat. 2, 2.. Rev. I. I..

By what Means JESUS CHRIST hath wrought SALVATION for us.

He performed the whole Law.

• Chrift came not to deftroy the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfil them. For he was made under the Law to redeem them that were under the Law; and he hath, as it became him, fulfilled all Righteousness.

b He pleased not himfelf, neither fought he his own Will, but the Will of the Father which fent him; for he did always thofe Things that pleased the Father.

i He was meek and lowly in Heart; he did no Violence, neither was any Deceit in his Mouth. When he was reviled, he reviled not again; when he suffered he threatened not, but committed himfelf to him that judgeth righteously: And though he were a Son, yet learned he Obedience by the Things which he fuffered.

k The Law of Truth was in his Mouth; he walked in Peace and Equity, and did turn many away from Iniquity..

He went about doing Good; and he did alk Things well; leaving us an Example, that we fhould follow his Steps; who did no Sin, neither was Guile found in his Mouth.

m Such an High-Prieft became us, who knew. no Sin, who is holy, harmlefs, undefiled, and separate from Sinners.

He gave us a NEW COVENANT.

n The Law and the Prophets were until John: Since that Time the Kingdom of God is preached by Jefus Chrift; who came to call Sinners to Repentance; to preach the Gofpel of Peace; and: to bring glad Tidings of good Things.

• The Law was given by Mofes, but Grace and Truth came by Jefus Chrift; which was as Prophet, mighty in Deed and Word before God: and all the People; concerning whom Mofes truly faid unto the Fathers, A Prophet thall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your Brethren, like unto me; him fhall ye hear, in all Things whatsoever he fhall fay unto you: And it fhall come to pafs, that every Soul which will not hear that Prophet, fhall be deftroyed from among the People.

P Jefus Chrift was a Minifter of the Circumcifion for the Truth of God, to confirm the Promifes made unto the Fathers; and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his Mercy.

All the Promifes of God in him are Yea, and in him, Amen.

The Law was our School-master to bring us to Christ; who hath changed the Customs which Mofes delivered, and took that Yoke from the Neck of his Difciples, which neither their Fathers nor they were able to bear.

The Priefts that offered Gifts according to the Law, ferved unto the Example and Shadow of heavenly Things: But now hath Chrift obtained a more excellent Ministry; by how much alfo he is the Mediator of a better Covenant, which was established upon better Promises. For if that first Covenant had been faultlefs, then fhould no Place have been fought for the fecond; and by giving us a New Covenant, the Lord hath made the first Old.

The firft Covenant had alfo Ordinances of Divine Service, and a worldly Sanctuary; in which were offered both Gifts and Sacrifices, that could not make him that did the Service perfect, as pertaining to the Confcience, which stood only in Meats and Drinks, and divers Washings, and carnal Ordinances, imposed on them until the Time of Reformation: But Chrift being come an High-Priest of good Things to come, is the Mediator of the New Teftament; that by the Redemption of the Tranfgreffions that were under the first Teftament, they which are called might receive the Promife of eternal Inheritance.

"Chrift hath blotted out the Hand-writing of Ordinances, that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the Way; so that we are no longer subject to Ordinances, which all are to perifh with the ufing; nor are we tied up, as the Jews were, in Meat or in Drink, or in refpect of a Holy Day, or of the New Moon, or of the Sabbath Days, which are a Shadow of Things to come; but the Body is of Chrift.
