A new edition of "England under the Tudors and Stuarts," having been called for, the text has been thoroughly revised, and divided into two volumes, for the convenience of those who are not required to study the history of both periods.

This arrangement has afforded the opportunity for a considerable enlargement of this portion of the work, to the extent of about fifty pages.

The new matter consists of additional paragraphs, where the narrative appeared too barren, more genealogical tables, and a new chapter "On the measures adopted by the Church of Rome for the extirpation of Heresy," which will serve to throw more light upon the history of the reign of Elizabeth.

An elaborate index has also been appended, to render these improvements complete.

Kirkdale, Liverpool,

J. B.

January, 1870.
