Infidelity, and others of them to Popish Superftition, and Idolatry.

This Society was compofed by the Charter of the Chief Prelates, and Dignitaries of the Church, and of feveral other Lords, and eminent Perfons in the State, with a Power to elect fuch others to be Members of the Corporation, as they, or the major Part of them fhould think beneficial to their charitable Defigns; and they immediately applied themselves with great Zeal, and Alacrity to the good Work; and after adjusting Preliminaries in the Choice of Officers, and fettling ftanding Orders, and Rules for their more regular Proceeding, they fubfcribed every one of them according to their feveral Ranks and Difpofitions, an Annual Sum to be paid to their Treasurer for the general Uses of the Society; and then chofe new Members, and gave out Deputations, according to the Powers in the Charter, to receive, and collect the Donations of all charitable, and well-difpos'd Perfons towards this moft pious Defign: And, thro' an efpecial Bleffing this Work of the Lord bath hitherto profpered in their Hands. Many Thousands of our own People, Infants, and Adults, and fome Thousands of Indians, and Negroes have been instructed, and baptized in the true Faith of our Lord Jefus Chrift; and more than One hundred thousand Volumes of Bibles and Common-Prayer Books, with other Tracts of Devotion and Inftruction have been difperfed in Foreign Parts; and there is now a very hopeful and decent Appearance of Religion in the publick Worfhip of God, according to the Liturgy of the Church of England, in a great Number of Churches in our Plantations in America by the Means, and through the Procurement of this Corporation.

The Charter directs the Society to give an annual Account to the Lord High Chancellor, the Lord Chief Juftice of the King's Bench, and the Lord Chief Juftice of the Common-Pleas, of the feveral Sums of Money by them receiv'd, and laid out, and of the Management, and Difpofition of the Revenues of the Corporation: This is punctually done, and the Society annually makes publick an Abstract of them, and their Proceedings. Therefore the Society now in the first Place acknowledges the Receipt, and returns their most hearty Thanks for the Benefactions of the Year 1741. Viz.
