PRELIMINARY instructions concerning the observancé of the Lord's Day, taken out of the Scriptures, p. 266. God's appointment of one day in seven to be kept holy in memory of the creation,-with the Christian

1st, that on the first day Christ finished the work of our Redemption by His Resurrection from the dead, p. 267.

3. from the vanity of thinking that frequenting the publick ordinances of Religion will atone for viciousness or immorality of life; inasmuch as all the prayers of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord; and those made by them in His house, being only a more solemn mockery, will bring down a curse rather than a blessing, p. 283.

4. from the particular qualifications requisite to render our publick devotions acceptable, viz. a gravity and decency of behaviour suitable to the sacredness of the place, and an

attentive, religious, and devoted frame of mind, as becomes. the tremendous Presence we are in, and the important business we are about, p. 286.

Prayer for a devout observance of the Lord's Day, p. 291.
