[From the fame.] E are told that Circular Letters have been fent WE to all the Members of both Houfes who have lately voted with the Doctor, begging of them, in the moft urgent manner, to meet him, were it only for the laft time, at his houfe in Downing Street, this afternoon; when he means to addrefs them nearly in the following words : "MY DEAR FRIENDS, "Permit me ftill to call you by that name, and to indulge a fond hope that you will not defert me in my utmost need, but give me your farther fupport at this alarming crifis. I am weak-I am nothing without you-I cling to your friendship as to the laft plank of my falvation; and pray do not flip from under when the the mountain billows are rolling on me, or I am overwhelmed for ever. "By your aid alone I narrowly efcaped the dangers of last week; but more dreadful perils await me. You all know that the hour is rapidly advancing, the decifive hour which will keep me on the Treafury Bench, or fink me into the fatal gulf of infignificance. Let me, therefore, most humbly, and most earnestly, beg your farther fupport. Fallen as I am from the throne of arrogance, and mortified as my vanity has lately been, I must repress every proud boat; but I hope I may be allowed to take a fhort review of my past measures, as affording fome claims at least to your pity on the present occafion. "As to the charge brought against me of chilling the ardour, repreffing the zeal, and paralyfing the energies of the nation; have I not tried every scheme, even to the detriment of the regular army, for railing numbers at leaft, however inefficient, by my Army of Referve, Militia Augmentation, and my General Defence Bills, as well as by that masterpiece of conftency, the Volunteer Act? and have 1 not gone on doing and undoing, annulling, repealing, changing, or fufpending every meafure, till, for want of any other refource, and in a state of undefcribable confufion, I am now ready to fufpend myself?—I therefore hope that you will fupport me! "Are not my schemes of economy and taxation without a parallel? Have 1 not intercepted all Mr. Pitt's promifed bleffings, and rendered his boafted Union a barren political meafure, a marriage without confum. mation, or any pledge of mutual love? Can you name a Statefman, before me, who ever thought of allaying difcontents by increafed cruelty, or of making a people loyal by almoft rendering invafion the only means of rescue from their evils-I therefore hope that you will fupport me! "In addition to thefe public. pretenfions, it would ill become me to urge any private claims to your kind regard. But you all know, that, after providing for Brother Hiley, Brother Bragge, and a few more of my poor relations and dependents, I fcattered my favours amongst you with a grateful and a liberal hand. Even my Brothers have danced out of one office into another, fometimes for the worfe, to make room for perfons who had before oppofed me, or who were willing to render me any effential fervice. In deed, 1 deed, I have no other means to enable me to withstand the moft formidable combination of men of rank, family, property, genius, eloquence, political abilities, and popular influence, ever known in this country.
