OBSERVATIONS

THE author of this little work entertains a thorough dislike for anonymous publications. In this case, however, delicacy requires him to conceal his name. Suffice it then to say, that he is what he professes to be, a composer; that most of his productions are of the sacred kind; and a large proportion of them designed for public worship. If, therefore, he had prefixed his name to the present work, it might have excited a suspicion that his real design was not the improvement of Psalmody, but the recommendation of his own compositions. Unconscious of any selfish motive, he was anxious to shield

himself from such an imputation.
