TO SUBSCRIBERS.

THE Editors of the SCOTS MAGAZINE are truly forry to announce the obligation they are laid under of advancing the price of this publica

tion.

The great rife upon the price of paper, in confequence of the late tax, is well known; not lefs than 150 per cent. of additional excife-duty has been impofed upon that article.

This publication has hitherto continued uniformly at one price fince its commencement. But of late, the rate of wages has been confiderably heightened; the price of materials, and the expence attending articles of intelligence are, alfo raised; and, if to all this be added the additional duty upon paper, it is hoped Subfcribers will not be furprised at the prefent propofal.

Since the prefent Editors undertook this Work they have been very confiderably embarrassed every Number for want of room; indeed they have added either a half or a quarter fheet to each Number fince they began; and they still find their bounds too fmall.

When, therefore, they lay an addition upon the price of each Number, (making it 9d.), they will at the fame time add nearly another fheet to the fize.

While the Editors make this involuntary rife of price, they trust they fhall not experience any diminution of the very liberal encouragement they have been favoured with fince their labours commenced; and their Subscribers and Readers may truft that they will continue their exertions to deserve it.
