made the leaft hefitation; but he alfo, after fome confideration, voluntarily furrendered himself, and the whole were fent off to Edinburgh, under the escort of a detachment of the regiment. The whole battalion feemed extremely fenfible of the improper conduct of fuch as were concerned, whatever regret they might feel for the fate of the few individuals who had fo readily given themselves up as prifoners, to be tried for their own and others mifconduct.

'An account of this matter having appeared in the Glasgow Courier of Thurf day, it is proper to obferve, that a miftake has, through inadvertency, or mifinformation, got into that account; for there is no reafon to believe, that the mutineers were poffeffed of any ammunition, though, they did fay, it was offered to be procured for them by some of the inhabitants in their rear.

It is alfo to be remarked, that all of them offered to deliver themselves up on Monday the 8th, previous to any general officer, or troops, coming to Glafgow.

It may be obferved farther, that in the account published in the Edinburgh papers, it is faid, that the Volunteers quelled the riot raised by the town's people, on the return of Major Leflie and Mr M'Lean; whereas it was a detachment of the Breadalbane fencible regiment who marched up to the relief of thofe Gentlemen, with the greatest alacrity and expedition; for which they received the thanks of the Lord Provoft and general officers, befides a handfome acknowledgement from Major Corbet and the Glafgow Volunteers.

"Notwithstanding this unfortunate affair, it is but juftice to obferve, that in every other view, the foldiers of this regiment have, upon all occafions, behaved them felves with the greatest fobriety, and that they have been, and ftill are, upon the beft of terms with their officers.'

20. Letters received this morning from Glasgow mention, that the utmost tranquillity prevails there. The Magiftrates have offered a reward of 50% for discovering any of the perfons who infulted the officers on Tuesday, but no discovery has yet been made. Several have been taken up, but difmiffed for want of fufficient evidence. The three troops of the Queen's own regiment of dragoons, which arrived in Glasgow from Paifley on Tuef day night, returned next day. The dragoons from Kilmarnock ftill remain at Glafgow. The Argyle ire regiment of fencibles arrived at Rutherglen, on Thurf

day, from Edinburgh; and on Friday marched for Paifley. Thursday right three more prifoners were brought to town from Glasgow, by a party of the third regiment of dragoons, and lodged in the Castle.

THE weather, till the 25th, has been in general, very wet; on the 25th and part of next day, a confiderable quantry of fnow fell; on the 27th it disappeared in the low countries,--the thermometer la varied from 46° or 47° to 30o, but with no appearance of steady froft. Our ma kets have been but indifferently fuppled with fith; the herrings have continued all this month in the Firth; they hart been fold in the market, generally, at 14d. per dozen; many buffes from the weft country, have come down the catal and fished them to be cured. Mutton d and 44d. per lb.; beef 34d. and 4d. perh Eggs have been very fearce for fome tine, and feldom below is. per dozen; butter Is. per lb.

On the continent, the froft has fet in with uncommon feverity.

The English report for November states, that the inceffant rains which prevailed fo generally through this month, have inpeded the later wheat fowing, even of light foils, and prevented a confiderable breadth of heavy lands, in many diftriés, from being fown this year at all. The new plants of wheats, from being fo mach chilled, do not mat the ground, as it s looked for at this season; a dry frot, d fome continuance, would help them mud and check the flug and wire-worm, which have alarmingly increafed through the mildnefs of the two laft winters. Indeed the wet weather has proved ungenial amoft throughout the whole system of agriculture. The accounts of the product of this year's crops are daily more unfa vourable; in many parts of the kingdon, the wheat does not rise to one half of what might reasonably be expected from the bulk at harveft; a red blight on the car was evidently the caufe in feveral of the home and eaftern counties. Late fow turnips, colefeed, winter tares, and ryt look generally well on lands kept dry. Wool is a little brifker in fale fince the laft month's report. The meat marketi are reasonable in all articles, except prime beef and pig pork, the former fetching 3s. 6d. and the latter 4s. per ftone. Stare hogs are cheap from the fcarcity of feed; but stock of all other kinds fells well.
