2 He had married, in 1795, his cousin the Princess Caroline Elizabeth, of Brunswick. In 1820 she was charged with having committed acts of impropriety with an Italian servant, while in Italy; and at her trial in the House of Lords, false evidence of the vilest description was brought against her; but it was entirely disproved, and the charge was abandoned.
