PREFACE. ENCOURAGED by the extent to which the "YOUNG MEN'S MAGAZINE" has been appreciated, the conductors have resolved to continue it weekly instead of monthly. As this periodical will in future be the medium of intelligence respecting Associations generally, its name will be altered to that of "THE ASSOCIATION." It will aim to be the organ of Young Men's Christian Associations, Early-Closing Societies, Literary and Mechanics' Institutions, and every other organisation whose object is the advancement of the community, and especially of young men, in literary attainments, virtuous conduct, or religious knowledge. That such a periodical is required, must be evident from the vast influence exerted by such associations; and no means will be spared to render this Journal worthy of its name and object. Besides containing a great variety of interesting information, its pages will be enriched with Lectures and Essays- Biographical Sketches-and Narrative Tales— Reviews and Critical Notices: and, for this purpose, several excellent writers have promised their valuable contributions. It only remains to be added, that it will be issued in WEEKLY NUMBERS, of SIXTEEN PAGES each, at ONE PENNY; and also in MONTHLY PARTS. |
