PREFACE.

THE assurance that "DR. HOWELL'S FAMILY" has conveyed to many hearts words of hope, healing, and trust, encourages the author to send forth a new edition.

It has been carefully revised, and its mission will be found as earnest and as helpful to-day as when it first sought to scatter by the wayside seeds of truth and of beauty.

The author has not drawn imaginary and impossible characters, but has selected a few men and women whose lifework has been closely interwoven with her own to portray the loveliness of that wisdom" which is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits."
