Our correfpondent adds,that he hopes this well-meant hint will be attended to by thofe whofe bufinefs it is to rectify such abuses; and alfo, that the weights in all the markets be often examined, as is the practice in London, and other well regulated

A young lad on Friday morning laft, was found in the outer-parliament houfe, concealed under the Lord Ordinary's chair, with fundry articles he had stolen the night before, from the fmall fhops in the entry to that houfe: he confeffed the fact upon examination, and was committed to prifon.

On the 14th inft. came on before the high court of Jufticiary, the trial of Alexander Murdifon, tenant in Ormiston, and John Millar his herdsman, accufed of fheep-ftealing. After hearing long and learned pleadings on the relevancy of the libel, their Lordships were pleased to find the fame relevant to infer the pains of law, and adjourn ed the court till Friday the 8th of January next, when they will proceed

on the trial.

On Saturday laft was committed to Aberdeen prifon, by warrant of Lord Juftice Clerk, John Gordon, fome time refidenter in Garbly in the parish of Eunducus and fhire of Murray, who was fentenced by the High Court of Jufticiary here upon the 21st of July 1767, to be executed at Aberdeen upon the 11th of September thereafter, for horfe-ftealing. He obtained a remiffion from his Majefty, upon condition of banishing himself from Britain in 40 days after being liberated, and is now to be fent from Sheriff to Sheriff to this city upon the application of the Lord Advocate, in order to have the fanction of the faid remiffion put in force against him, which is to be executed at Aberdeen, in terms of the former fentence. the fame parish was broke open and
robbed of a fcrew-plate, a pair of pif-
tols, all his moulds for brafiery work,
and a number of other articles. Both
thefe are fuppofed to have been done
by two ftout young fellows, who were
feen lurking obout two o'clock next
morning about the farm-town of Keir
in faid parish.

We hear from Caithnefs that the
fhip Mary, Capt. Spiers, for Jamaica,
put in on the 29th of November, to
Frefwick Bay, in that county, all well.
We are informed that there is juft
now in the garden of Mr MacKenzie
of Dundonnel in Rofs-fhire, a white
rose bush in full bloffom and the flow-
's very beautiful.
The fame bush
bore rofes the latter end of May laft.
We hear that, the fellows who at-
tacked the drover, near Avemore, and
wounded him with a piftol, as mention
ed in our laft, have been apprehended,
and are now in Inverness prifon. The
drover fwears pofitively, that they are
the men who fhot at him.

We hear from Aberdeen, that on
Sunday fe'ennight, a poor woman's
houfe in the parish of Belhelvie, was

Douglas, Heron, and Co. were offered
in payment here, and were stopped by
the perfons to whom they were offer-
ed.

It is faid a number of Moidores or
27 s. pieces, very light, are now in cir-
culation, and it behoves the public to
be on their guard, not to receive any
of them without previoufly weighing
them.

There is at this time a red rofe in
full blow, and feveral more in the bud,
in the garden of the Hon. Charles Boyd,
in old Aberdeen.

We hear from Abroath, that the
fhip Owners Goodwill of that place,
Captain Charles Kenny, jun. master,
was loft on the 20th ult. on a voyage
from London to Guttenburgh. The
crew were all faved; but the master
died foon after getting on fhore, owing
to the great danger and fatigue to which
they were for feveral hours expofed.
