HAROLD (son of Godwin, Earl of Kent)-Crowned, 1066. Reigned 9 months. Killed at the battle of Hastings, 14th October, 1066. Buried at Waltham Abbey.

THE NORMAN INVASION, 1066. WILLIAM (surnamed The Conqueror)-Born at Falaise, 1025. Crowned King of England on Christmas Day, 1066. Reigned 20 years, 10 months, 25 days. Died from a fall from his horse at Hermentrude, a village near Rouen, on the 9th Sept., 1087, in the 63rd year of his age. Buried in the Abbey Church at Caen.

WILLIAM II. (surnamed Rufus)--Born about 1060. Crowned 26th Sept., 1087. Reigned 12 years, 10 months, 24 days. Accidentally killed in the New Forest 2nd August, 1100, aged about 43. Buried at Winchester.

HENRY I. (surnamed Beauclerc)-Born 1068. Crowned 6th August, 1100. Reigned 35 years, 4 months. Died 2nd Dec., 1135, from eating lampreys, at the Castle of Lyon, near Rouen, in the 67th year of his age. Buried in Reading Abbey.

*He left two sons and two daughters; from one of which daughters James I. of England descended, and from him George IV.

† On the death of Hardicanute, the English, impatient of the oppressive yoke of the Danes, rose upon them, and massacred all who were not fortunate enough to escape out of the country. An annual festival, called Hocktide, was instituted to commemorate the deliverance of the nation; and it is still observed in some counties.

Buried in the Abbey of Feversham. HENRY II. (surnamed Curtmantle and Fitzempress)-Born 1132. Crowned 19th Dec., 1154. Reigned 34 years, 7 months, 12 days. Died at Chinon 7th July, 1189, of natural decay, in the 57th year of his age. Buried at Fontevrault. RICHARD I. (surnamed Cœur de Leon)-Born 1157. Crowned 3rd Sept., 1189. Reigned 9 years, 9 months. Killed by a wound from an arrow at the siege of the Castle of Chaluz, 6th April, 1199, in the 41st year of his age. Buried at Fontevrault.

JOHN (surnamed Lackland)—Born 1167. Crowned 27th May, 1199. Reigned 17 years, 6 months, 13 days. Died 19th Oct., 1216, at Newark, as is supposed by poison, in the 49th year of his age. Buried at Worcester.

HENRY III. (surnamed of Winchester)-Born 1206. Crowned 28th Oct., 1216. Reigned 56 years 1 month. Died at Westminster 16th Nov., 1272, of natural decay, in the 66th year of his age. Buried at Westminster.

EDWARD I. (surnamed Longshanks)-Born 1239. Crowned 19th August, 1274. Reigned 34 years, 7 months, 21 days. Died 7th July, 1307, of a dysentery, at Burg-upon-the-Sands, in Cumberland, in the 69th year of his age. Buried at Westminster.

EDWARD II. (surnamed of Caernarvon)-Born 1284. Crowned 23rd Feb., 1308. Reigned 19 years, 6 months, 18 days. Murdered in Berkeley Castle, 21st Sept., 1327, in the 44th year of his age. Buried at Gloucester.

EDWARD III. (surnamed of Windsor)-Born 1312. Crowned 1st Feb., 1327. Reigned 50 years 5 months. Died 21st June, 1377, at Shene (now Richmond), of natural decay, in the 65th year of his age. Buried at Westminster.

PICHARD II. (surnamed of Bordeaux)-Born 1366. Crowned 16th July, 1377. Reigned 22 years, 3 months, 8 days. Murdered 14th Feb., 1400, at Pontefract, in the 34th year of his age. Buried first at Langley, and afterwards removed by Henry V. to Westminster.

HENRY IV. (surnamed Bolingbroke)-Born 1367. Crowned 13th Oct., 1399. Reigned 13 years, 5 months, 20 days. Died 20th March, 1413, of apoplexy, in the Jerusalem Chamber at Westminster, in the 46th year of his age. Buried at Canterbury. HENRY V. (surnamed of Monmouth)-Born, 1388. Crowned 9th April, 1413. Reigned 9 years, 5 months, 11 days. Died 31st of August, 1422, of dysentery or pleurisy, at Vincennes near Paris, in the 34th year of his age. Buried at Westmin

HENRY VI. (surnamed of Windsor)-Born, 1421. Crowned, 6th November, 1429. Reigned 38 years, 5 months, 4 days. Murdered in the Tower, 23rd May, 1472, in the 50th year of his age. Buried, first at Chertsey, and afterwards at Windsor. EDWARD IV. (surnamed of York)-Born 1441. Crowned 28th June, 1461. Reigned 22 years, 1 month, 5 days. Died 9th April, 1483, of a surfeit, at Westminster, in the 42nd year of his age. Buried at Windsor.

EDWARD V.-Born, 1470. Was not crowned. Reigned nominally 2 months, 13 days. Murdered in the Tower, 22nd June, 1483, in his 13th year. His supposed bones were removed from the Tower by Charles II., in 1674, and buried in Westminster. RICHARD III. (surnamed Crookback)-Born 1450. Crowned, 6th July, 1483. Reigned 2 years, 2 months. Killed at Bosworth-field, 22nd August, 1485, in the 35th year of his age. Buried at Leicester.

HENRY VII (surnamed Tudor)-Born 1455. Crowned 30th Oct., 1485. Reigned 23 years, 8 months. Died 21st April, 1509, at Richmond, of consumption, in the 53rd year of his age. Buried in his chapel at Westminster. HENRY VIII.-Born 1492. 37 years, 9 months, 7 days. ster, of natural decay, in the Windsor. EDWARD VI.-Born 1537. Crowned 25th Feb., 1547. Reigned 6 years, 5 months, 8 days. Died 6th July, 1553, at Greenwich, of consumption, in the 16th year of his age. Buried at Westminster.

MARY (surnamed The Bloody)-Born 1516. Crowned 30th Nov., 1553. Reigned 5 years, 4 months, 11 days. Died 17th Nov., 1558, at St. James's, of dropsy, in the 42nd year of her age. Buried at Westminster.

ELIZABETH (surnamed The Good)-Born 1533. Crowned 15th Jan., 1558. Reigned 44 years, 4 months, 7 days. Died 24th March, 1603, at Richmond, of natural decay, in the 70th year of her age. Buried at Westminster.

JAMES I. (surnamed Stuart)-Born 1566. Crowned 25th July, 1603. Reigned 22 years, 3 days. Died 27th March, 1625, at Theobald's, of fever and ague, in the 59th year of his age. Buried at Westminster.

CHARLES I.-Born 1600. Crowned 2nd Feb., 1626. Reigned 22 years, 9 months, 19 days. Beheaded at Whitehall 30th Jan., 1649, in the 49th year of his age. Buried at Windsor. OLIVER CROMWELL-Born 1599. Made Protector 1653. Ruled 4 years, 8 months, 18 days. Died 12th August, 1658, at Whitehall, from anxiety of mind. in the 59th year of his age.

Buried first at Westminster, in the south window of Henry VII's Chapel, but his body was afterwards removed, and hanged at Tyburn, where it was buried at the foot of the gallows. CHARLES II.-Born 1630. Crowned 23rd April, 1661. Reigned 24 years, 8 months, 8 days. Died 6th Feb., 1685, at Whitehall, of apoplexy, suspected by some by poison, in the 55th year of his age. Buried at Westminster. JAMES II.-Born 1633. Crowned 23rd April, 1685. Reigned 3 years, 10 months, 17 days. Died 6th Sept., 1701, at St. Germains, of a lethargy, in the 68th year of his age. Buried in the monastery of the Benedictines at St. Germains.

WILLIAM III. (surnamed of Orange)-Born 1650. Crowned 11th April, 1689. Reigned 13 years, 23 days. Died 8th March, 1702, at Kensington, of fever and asthma, in the 52nd year of his age. Buried at Westminster.

ANNE-Born 1664. Crowned 23rd April, 1702. Reigned 12 years, 4 months, 24 days. Died 1st Aug., 1714, at Kensington, of apoplexy, in the 50th year of her age. Buried at Westminster.

GEORGE I. (surnamed Guelph)-Born 1660. Crowned 20th October, 1714. Reigned 12 years, 10 months, 10 days. Died 11th June, 1727, at Osnaburg, from eating part of a melon, in the 67th year of his age. Buried at Hanover.

GEORGE II. Born 1683. Crowned 11th October, 1727. Reigned 33 years, 4 months, 14 days. Died 25th October, 1760, at Kensington, of a rupture of the heart, in the 77th year of his age. Buried at Westminster.

GEORGE III.-Born 1738. Crowned 22nd September, 1761. Reigned 59 years, 3 months, 4 days. Died 29th January, 1820, at Windsor, of natural decay, in the 82nd year of his age. Buried at Windsor. His reign was the longest of any English monarch. GEORGE IV.-Born 1762. Crowned 19th July, 1821. Reigned 10 years, 4 months, 28 days. Died 26th June, 1830, at Windsor, of natural decay, in the 68th year of his age. Buried at Windsor.

WILLIAM IV.-Born 1765. Crowned 8th September, 1830. Reigned 6 years, 11 months, 23 days. Died 20th June, 1837, at Windsor, of natural decay, in the 73rd year of his age. Buried at Windsor.

VICTORIA I.-Born 24th May, 1819. Crowned 28th June, 1838. Married on the 10th February, 1840, in the Chapel Royal, St. James's, to Field Marshal His Royal Highness Francis Albert Augustus Charles Emanuel Duke of Saxe, Prince of Saxe Coburg Gotha, K.B.
