118 PURCHAS (Samuel), Purchas his Pilgrimes; in Five Bookes. London, Printed by William Stansby for Henrie Fetherstone, 1625–6. 5 vols. folio, FIRST EDITION, numerous maps and plates, a clean and fresh set (a few corners torn), old calf, rebacked, with the MONTAGU ARMS on sides, £45.

The first volume lacks the engraved title, 4 ll. of alphabetical table, and the map of the Mogul Empire, and the 5th volume lacks 3 preliminary leaves. The 2nd volume has the autograph of ROBERT BURTON, the author of the Anatomy of Melancholy, on the title, as well as that of his brother William Burton, the author of the " Description of Leicestershire," and the date 1640, and also that of the latter's son, Cassibelan Burton, dated 1645. It is a sound and desirable copy of this great series of important and interesting travels in all parts of the world.
