In conclusion, I may be allowed to explain that the slight alteration in the appearance of the present volume, as compared with that on the Norman and Plantagenet period, was adopted with a view to introduce more matter, without increasing the size and price of the volume. By this alteration, more than twice the quantity of text has been compressed within only half again as many pages as were contained in the former work.
