Of posfesfive Pronouns.

Van de bezittelijke Voornaamwoorden.

These pronouns are called posfesfive, becaufe they always denote property or possesfion.

They are divided in two forts, viz: adjective and fubftantive.

The adjective are fo called because they are always joined to a fubftantive: mijn boek, my book; uwe pen, your pen; zijn huis, his houfe; haar tuin, her garden; onze meid, our fervant; hunne tafel, their table.

The fubftantive ftand always alone, as: de mijne, mine; de uwe, yours; de zijne, his; de hare, hers; de onze, ours; de hunne, theirs.

The posfesfive pronouns of the first and fecond perfon denote only the gender of the posfesfion; but thofe of the third perfon denote the genders of both, of the posfesfion and of the posfesfor. Speaking of a man we fay: zijn vader, his father; zijne moeder, his mother; but of a woman; haar vader, her father; hare moeder, her mother.

It is the fame in the plural; of feveral men we fay: hun huis, their houfe; hunne huizen, their houfes; and of feveral woman: haar huis, their houfe; hare huizen, their houses.

Declenfion

of the pronouns posfesfive adjective.

Singular.

1. mijn tuin, my garden.

2. mijns tuins, or, van mijnen tuin, of my garden. 3. mijnen, or, aan mijnen tuin, to my garden. 4. mijnen tuin, my garden.
