1. A Fellowship, to be called the "MOHOBAT FELLOWSHIP," of the value of Rs. (80) eighty per mensem and tenable for two years, shall be awarded every alternate year or whenever vacant.

2. The appointment to the Mohobat Fellowship shall be made by the Syndicate by selection from among the Graduates of the Degree of B.A., or B.Sc., of the year in which the appointment is made, and of the year immediately preceding, preference being given to a Mahomedan Candidate of the requisite attainments and distinction. In the absence of a suitable Mahomedan Candidate, preference shall be given to a Hindu Candidate of the required qualifications from Kathiawar, Gujarat and the Deccan in that order. The Fellowship when vacant shall be announced for competition. Applications should be sent to the Registrar under Form (AAP).

3. The Candidate selected will be required to place his services as tutor or lecturer at the disposal of one of the Colleges affiliated to the University. His appointment as tutor or lecturer shall be to the Junagad College, except under circumstances calling, in the opinion of the Syndicate, for a different arrangement.

In January 1889, the Honorary Secretaries to the Judge Spencer Memorial Fund offered to the University, on behalf of the subscribers, a sum of Rs. 5,100, in 4 per cent. Government paper, for the foundation of a Prize in memory of the long and distinguished services of the late Mr. N. Spencer as a Judge of the local Small Causes Court, the Prize being awarded to a Candidate who passes the LL.B. Examination with the highest number of marks on the whole.

At a meeting of the Senate held on the 12th April 1889, this offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate.

The Prize will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

1. A Prize, to be called the "JUDGE SPENCER PRIZE," consisting of books of the value of Rs. 150, shall be awarded annually to the Candidate who passes the Second Examination for the degree of Bachelor of Laws with the highest number of marks.

2. If in any year the Prize shall not be awarded, the amount thus saved may be capitalized and added to the principal fund.

3. The Senate shall have the power, whenever it may think fit, to modify or alter the terms upon which the Prize may be awarded, or otherwise to deal with the income of the Fund, provided the object for which the Prize has been founded is kept in view.

In April 1889, Mr. R. A. Parakh offered to the University, on certain conditions, a sum of Rs. 6,000 in 4 per cent. Bombay Port Trust Bonds for the foundation of a Scholarship in memory of his deceased wife Shirinbai, with the object of "facilitating the development of medical education among Parsi females as far as possible in this Presidency."

At the annual meeting of the Senate held on the 14th December 1889, this offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

A Scholarship, to be called the "BAI SHIRINBAI RATANSHA PARAKH SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of Rs. 20 per month and tenable for five years, shall be awarded every five years, or whenever vacant, to the Parsi female Candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks and studies for the degree of Licentiate of Medicine and Surgery in a College or Institution recognized by the University of Bombay in the Faculty of Medicine.

2. Failing qualified Parsi female Candidates under the preceding regulation, the Scholarship shall be awarded to a native or any other female Candidate under the same conditions, preference being given to the former.

3. If the Candidate qualified under the above regulations have obtained another Scholarship of the same or higher value, the Scholarship sha! be awarded to the next qualified Candidate.

4. If when the Scholarship falls vacant there be no qualified Candidate at the Matriculation Examination, the Scholarship shall be awarded to the previous scholar if she have not passed the final examination for the Medical Degree to be enjoyed by her until she passes that examination ; if in the meanwhile no other suitable Candidate presents herself at the Matriculation Examination, in which case she will be deprived of the Scholarship, it being awarded to the new Candidate. This indulgence to be subject to the Principal of the College or Institution at which the Scholar may be studying certifying that the Scholar's conduct and progress in University studies are satisfactory.

5. The Scholarship, when vacant, shall be announced for competition soon after the results of the Matriculation Examination are declared. Failing a suitable Candidate who has passed in the year in which the announcement is made, Candidates who have passed the examination in any previous year subsequent to the last award shall be eligible for the Scholarship. Applications should be sent to the Registrar under Form AAQ.

6. The Candidate elected must satisfy the Registrar within two months from the date of election that she has duly joined a College or Institution recognized in Medicine.

7. The stipend of the Scholarship shall be payable monthly on a bill drawn by the Head of the College or Institution at which the Scholar may be studying, who shall certify under his signature on such bill that the Scholar is in regular attendance at the College or Institution, that her conduct is good, and that her progress in University studies is satisfactory.

8. Should the Scholar discontinue her University studies or be unfavourably reported on by the Head of the College or Institution, the Syndicate shall declare the Scholarship to be forfeited.

9. Should there be no qualified female Candidate during any year, or only such as are disqualified under Regulation 3, a Prize consisting of medical books and a gold medal of the value of the accumulated interest shall be awarded next year to the male Candidate who passes the examination for the degree of L. M. & S. with the highest number of marks in the First Class.

10. Any surplus, which may arise from the vacancy of the Scholarship during any year or part of the year, shall be applied by the Syndicate in such manner as they shall think best fitted for furthering the objects and purposes of the endowment.

11. The Senate shall have the power, whenever it may think fit, to modify or alter the terms upon which the Scholarship may be awarded, or otherwise to deal with the income of the Fund, provided the object for which the Scholarship has been founded is kept in view.

THE VALLABHDAS VALJI SCHOLARSHIP.

In September 1888, the Honorary Secretaries to the Committee for raising a fund in memory of the late Mr. Vallabhdas Valji offered to the University, on behalf of the Committee, a sum of Rs. 5,000, in 4 per cent. Government Paper, under certain conditions, for the foundation of a Scholarship and a Prize* in memory of the late Vallabhdas Valji.

At a meeting of the Senate held on 24th January 1890, this offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations :

1. A Scholarship, to be called "THE VALLABHDAS VALJI SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of Rs. 12 per month, and tenable for one year, shall be awarded every year to the Candidate from the Bhatia community who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks in Sanskrit, or, failing Sanskrit, in English, and prosecutes his studies at a recognized College or Institution.\

2. The Bhatia Candidates must forward their applications to the Registrar (vide Form AAR) with their applications for permission to attend the Matriculation Examination of the same year.

3. The Candidate elected must satisfy the Registrar, within six weeks from the date of election, that he has duly joined a recognized College or Institution.

4. The stipend of the Scholarship shall be payable monthly on a bill drawn by the Head of his College or Institution, who shall certify, under his signature, that the Scholar is in regular attendance at the College or Institution, that his conduct is good, and that his progress in University studies is satisfactory.

5. Should the Scholar discontinue his University studies, or be unfavourably reported on by the Head of his College or Institution, it shall be in the discretion of the Syndicate to stop payment of the stipend or to declare the Scholarship to be forfeited.

6. In the event of the Scholarship not being awarded in any year under provision of Regulation 1, it shall be awarded to the Scholar of the preceding year, provided he is still studying at a recognized College or Institution and is favourably reported on by the Head of such College or Institution.

7. Any surplus, which may arise from the vacancy of the Scholarship during any year or part of a year, shall be applied by the Syndicate in such manner as they shall think best fitted for furthering the object and purposes of the endowment.

8. The Senate shall have the power, whenever it may think fit, to modify or alter the terms upon which the Scholarship may be awarded, or otherwise to deal with the income of the Fund, provided the object for which the Scholarship has been founded is kept in view.

In January 1890, Messrs. Kharshedji Rastamji Cama and Navroji Pestanji Cama offered to the University, on behalf of Mr. Pestanji Hormasji Cama, C.I.E., a sum of Rs. 25,000 in 4 per cent. Government Promissory Notes-Rs. 20,000 for the foundation of a Scholarship, to be called the "Pestanji Hormasji Cama Scholarship" and awarded, in a certain order of preference according to nationality, to poor and deserving female candidates wishing to study for the Medical degree; and Rs. 5,000 for the foundation of a gold medal to be called the "Bai Hirabai Pestanji Hormasji Cama Gold Medal," and awarded to the female candidate who may pass the L.M. & S. Examination with the highest marks in Surgery or Midwifery.

At a meeting of the Senate, held on 10th September 1890, the offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

1. A Scholarship, to be called "THE PESTANJI HORMASJI CAMA SCHOLARSHIP," of the annual value of Rs. 150 and tenable for five years, shall be awarded every year to the Parsi female Candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks and studies for the degree of Licentiate of Medicine and Surgery in a College or Institution recognized by the University of Bombay in the Faculty of Medicine and who, but for the Scholarship, would not be able to go on with her medical studies.
