THE RAJARAM GOVINDRAM SCHOLARSHIP.

In September 1901, in a letter addressed to the Registrar, Bombay University, Mr. Motilal Narotumdas offered to the University a sum of Rs. 6,000 in 3 per cent. Government Paper for the foundation of a Scholarship to be called "THE RAJARAM GOVINDBAM SCHOLARSHIP," to be awarded annually to the highest among Visa Nagar Bania Candidates at the Matriculation Examination.

The offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate at their Meeting held on the 19th June 1902.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

A Scholarship to be entitled "THE RAJARAM GOVINDRAY SCHOLARSHIP' of the value of Rs. 15 per mensem, tenable for one year, shall be awarded every year to the Candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks from among the Candidates belonging to the Visa Nagar Bania caste, and joins a recognised College or Institution.

2. In the event of there being no successful Candidate belonging to the Visa Nagar Bania caste eligible for the Scholarship, it shall be awarded to the Candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks in Sanskrit from among Gujarati Hindu Candidates of any caste, and joins a recognised College or Institution, and failing such a one, it shall be re-awarded to the Rajaram Govindram Scholar of any previous year, if still attending a recognised College or Institution.

3. Candidates for the Scholarship must forward their applications for it with their applications for permission to appear at the Matriculation Examination. (Vide Form AAAJ.)

4. The Candidate, to whom the Scholarship is awarded, must satisfy the Syndicate, within six weeks from the date of election, that he has duly joined a recognised College or Institution.

5. The stipend of the Scholarship shall be payable half-yearly by the University Registrar on a bill to be drawn by the Head of such recognised College or Institution who shall certify, under his signature on such bill, that the scholar is in regular attendance at the College, that his conduct is good, and that his progress in University studies is satisfactory.

6. Should the scholar discontinue his University studies, or be unfavourably reported on by the Head of his College or Institution, it shall be in the discretion of the Syndicate to stop payment of the stipend, or to declare the Scholarship forfeited.

7. The annual income of the Fund shall be subject to a deduction of 5 per cent. to be contributed to the General Fund of the University.

8. Any surplus which may arise from the vacancy of the Scholarship during any year or part of a year shall be applied by the Syndicate in such manner as they shall think best fitted for furthering the object and purposes of the endowment.

9. The Senate shall have the power, whenever it may think fit, to modify or alter the terms upon which the Scholarship may be awarded, or

otherwise to deal with the income of the Fund, provided the object for which the Scholarship has been founded is kept in view, and provided the name "THE RAJARAM GOVINDRAM SCHOLARSHIP" is always retained.

THE SIR DINSHAW MANOCKJEE PETIT (FIRST BARONET) SCHOLARSHIP.

In September 1901, in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Bombay University, Mr. Bomanji Dinshaw Petit offered to the University a sum of Rs. 6,000 in 3 per cent. Government Paper for the foundation of a Scholarship in the name of his father, the late Sir Dinshaw Manockjee Petit (First Baronet), to be awarded annually, under certain conditions, to the Candidate who passes the Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks in Persian.

The offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate at their Meeting held on the 19th June 1902.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations :

A Scholarship to be called "THE SIR DINSHAW MANOCKJEE PETIT (FIRST BARONET) SCHOLARSHIP" of the value of the annual income of the Fund (subject to the 5 per cent. deduction to be mentioned below), and tenable for one year, shall be awarded annually by the Syndicate to the Candidate who, having passed his Matriculation Examination with the highest number of marks in the Persian Language, elects to prosecute his studies further at any recognised Arts College or Institution, with Avesta and Pahlavi as his Second Language.

2. Candidates for the Scholarship must forward their applications for it with their applications for permission to appear at the Matriculation Examination (vide Form AAAK).

3. The Candidate, to whom the Scholarship is awarded, must satisfy the Syndicate, within six weeks from the date of election, that he has duly joined a recognised College or Institution.

4. The stipend of the Scholarship shall be payable half-yearly by the University Registrar on a bill to be drawn by the Head of such recognised College or Institution who shall certify, under his signature on such bill, that the scholar is in regular attendance at the College, that his conduct is good, and that his progress in University studies is satisfactory.

5. Should the scholar discontinue his University studies, or be unfavour ably reported on by the Head of his College or Institution, it shall be in the discretion of the Syndicate to stop payment of the stipend, or to declare the Scholarship forfeited.

In Avesta and Pahlavi when these languages may be introduced at the Matriculation Examination.

6. The annual income of the Fund shall be subject to a deduction of 5 per cent. to be contributed to the General Fund of the University.

7. Any surplus which may arise from the vacancy of the Scholarship during any year or part of a year, shall be added to the principal and shall be used for increasing the amount of the Scholarship.

8. The Senate shall have the power, whenever it may think fit, to modify or alter the terms upon which the Scholarship may be awarded, or otherwise to deal with the income of the Fund, provided the object for which the Scholarship has been founded is kept in view.

THE SIR DINSHAW MANOCKJEE PETIT (FIRST BARONET) SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP.

In January 1902, in a letter addressed to the Registrar, Bombay University, Sir Dinshaw Manockjee Petit (Second Baronet) offered to the University a sum of Rs. 10,000 in 3 per cent. Government Paper for the foundation of a Scholarship in the name of his grandfather, the late Sir Dinshaw Manockjee Petit (First Baronet), to be awarded annually to the Candidate passing the Intermediate Science Examination with the highest number of marks in the First Class.

The offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate at their Meeting held on the 19th June 1902.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations:

A Scholarship to be called "THE SIR DINSHAW MANOCKJEE PETIT (FIRST BARONET) SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP of the value of the annual income of the Fund (subject to the 5 per cent. deduction to be mentioned below), and tenable for one year, shall be awarded every year by the Syndicate to the Candidate who passes the Intermediate Examination for the Degree of B.Sc. in the First Class, with the highest number of marks, and is recommended for the Scholarship by the Examiners, on condition that he continues his studies in Science for the Examination for the Degree of B.Sc. during his tenure of the Scholarship, at one of the Colleges or Institutions recognised by the University of Bombay.

2. In case two Candidates are bracketed together in any year for getting the highest number of marks as aforesaid, the Syndicate may, in such event, award the Scholarship to the one who, on account of his pecuniary circumstances, may, in their opinion, be in greater need of the help of the Scholarship.

3. Any surplus which may arise from the vacancy of the Scholarship during any year or part of a year shall, from time to time, be allowed by the Syndicate to accumulate until it amounts to Rs. 1,000 when the same shall be invested in Government Promissory Loan Notes and added to the corpus of the original donation.

4. The Candidate, to whom the Scholarship is awarded, must satisfy the Syndicate, within six weeks from the date of election, that he has duly joined a recognised College or Institution.

5. The stipend of the Scholarship shall be payable half-yearly by the University Registrar on a bill to be drawn by the Head of such recognised College or Institution who shall certify, under his signature on such bill that the scholar is in regular attendance at the College, that his conduct is good, and that his progress in University studies is satisfactory.

In October 1902, in a letter to the address of the Vice-Chancellor, the Rev. D. Mackichan, M.A., D.D., LL.D., Dr. Temulji Bhicaji Nariman offered to the University on behalf of the Trustees of The late Mr. N. J. Wadia Charity Fund" a sum of Rs. 6,000* for the foundation of a Scholarship in the name of the late Mr. Nusserwanji Jehangirji Wadia, to be awarded every alternate year to the highest among Parsi Candidates at the Second Examination in Medicine and at the Second Examination in Civil Engineering.

The offer was accepted with the best thanks of the Senate at their meeting held on the 9th March 1903.

The Scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the following Regulations :

A Scholarship to be called "THE NUSSERWANJI JEHANGIRJI WADIA SCHOLARSHIP," of the value of the annual income of the Fund (subject to. the 5 per cent. deduction mentioned below), and tenable for one year, shall be awarded by the Syndicate in alternate years to the Candidate who passes the Second Examination in Medicine and to the Candidate who passes the Second Examination in Civil Engineering with the highest number of marks from among the Parsi Candidates, on condition that the

scholar prosecutes his studies for the corresponding Degree Examination at one of the Colleges recognised by the University of Bombay.

2. In the absence in any year of an eligible Parsi Candidate in the Medical Examination the Scholarship shall be awarded to the eligible Candidate at the Engineering Examination of that year and vice versa. In the absence in any year of an eligible Parsi Candidate both in the Medical and Engineering Examinations, the Scholarship shall be awarded to the Candidate who passes with the highest number of marks the Second Medical or Second Engineering Examination, as the case may be, of that year.

3. The Candidate, to whom the Scholarship is awarded, must satisfy the Syndicate, within four weeks from the date of election, that he has duly joined a recognised College or Institution.

In January 1903, in a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, the Rev. D. Mackichan, M.A., D.D., LL.D., Messrs. Dikshit and Dhanjisha, Solicitors, offered to the University on behalf of their Clients, the Executors of the late Dr. Ismail Jan Mahomed, a sum of Rs. 6,000 in 3 per cent. Government Promissory Notes for the foundation of a Scholarship bearing the late Dr. Ismail's name, to be awarded annually under certain conditions to the highest among Mahomedan Candidates at the Matriculation Examination.
