Reverend Cowles shows his expertise by starting a discussion of the Pentateuch. Though his aim wasn't to critique this religious work, but rather to weave an argument for discussion around it, it's still hard not to look at this work as an early example of biblical evaluation. Works of this kind are normal now, but at the time this book marked a progressive direction in the way people talked about religion, making it all the better that the book was preserved. |
