immense amount of good by living entirely on the
eggs of various destructive beetles. As the photo
shows, their nest is built behind loose bark of tree
trunks. I only found them near the Heronry in
Tonawanda Swamp.

Within the loose scale of
bark mass of twigs and other rubbish is
crammed, upon which a layer of finer bark with
an intermixture of a little moss and a number of
spiders cocoons are placed. The eggs number
from five to eight and can be found from May
31st, and are creamy-white, speckled or spotted
with hazel or reddish brown, often in form of
wreaths.
