HIS story of my father's life

was begun and almost com

pleted with only one end in view—that my three little sons should know something of their mother's father. Later on, thinking perhaps a few of our friends - especially his friends — would like to read these incidents, I have decided to publish it.

These words will explain — if explanation is needed - the very personal nature of the narrative.
