"He that hath ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the Churches." For that Spirit, "who spake by the Prophets;" hath in every part of Scripture proclaimed Salvation by the merits, and mediation, of Christ Jesus only. Of that Jesus; who, as David in our text foretold; did call the

Almighty Jehovah "his Father, his God, and his strong Salvation."

"In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the Wilderness of Judea; and saying, Repent ye, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the Prophet Esaias, saying; the voice of one crying in the Wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight."

When Jesus came to be baptized of John, he emphatically thus addressed his Lord, and Redeemer; knowing him through the inspirations of the Holy Ghost, whose prophet John was: "I have need to be baptized of Thee, and comest Thou to me."

Remark the acknowledgment of the superior commission of our great Redeemer by John the Baptist; and from thence learn the inefficacy of any atonement by other merits

And in the concluding strain of this sacred Poem, he thus advises all his hearers. "Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and so ye perisht from the right way; if his wrath be kindled, (yea but a little) blessed are all they that put their trust in him.'

Now I would ask the Socinian what Son is this; to whom Jehovah promises utmost parts of the Earth for his possession ?" And I would require of any person of candour, and common information, how this promise is at present actually verified to Jesus of Nazareth, whose Divinity is so plainly shewn by David?

Is it not fulfilled in the glorious diffusion of Christian knowledge wherever ocean roars, wherever prayers arise to Christ our King?

O glorious Faith; behold with one accord a Nation rise to testify thy Truth; behold our happy Country, roused like a giant from his sleep, once more rallying around the cross of Jesus Christ! Yes, my brethren, we triumphed in the justice of our cause, when God's own arm led forth our Patriot bands to victory. Truth, the Might, the Mercy, of her crucified Redeemer.

Blessed," O thrice blessed, "are the people in such a case:

Thy arrows are very sharp, and the people shall be subdued unto thee, even in the midst among the King's enemies. Thy seat, O God, endureth for ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre."

Hard as has been the trial to every Parent's heart, when even our daily journals recorded the blasphemous attempts of the wicked; yet, praise be to God, our Children see all ranks unite in horror, and detestation of the scorner of God's word.

Bring forth the everlasting Book; for, on

than those of Christ Jesus.

For there is but one Mediator between God, and man; the man Christ Jesus."

When John had baptized Jesus, at our Lord's express commandment, then was accomplished the prediction of the Holy Spirit : and the Baptist was assured of his Redeemer in His Person. "He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon Him: And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

The excellency of our Saviour, and his dignity, are eloquently set forth also by David in many parts of the Psalms. Inspired by God's Holy Spirit, who, in Unity with the Father and the Son, is accomplishing the great work of our Redemption; David continually alludes to his own, and our Divine Lord, Master, and only Saviour.

Nor is it at all surprising that all Christian teachers and writers so much quote the Psalter; since it alone converted the celebrated French philosopher, La Harpe, who had endeavoured to overthrow the Religion of our Lord Christ.

It is well known, now, that a learned So

ciety was established in that unhappy Kingdom, whose object was to overturn the altar and the throne. Let their own destruction warn those among us, who may yet be weak and wicked enough to seek the same mischief. Every individual member came to an untimely death; and most of them perished on that scaffold, which they had prepared for others. Thrown into prison, the one now mentioned had time for reflection; and, as an amusement, he began to translate David's Psalms. They wrought upon a once obdurate heart; as the mercy of God enabled him to see the light of Prophecy revealing true Religion; and he lived to renounce his errors, and died a true believer in the Gospel.

Behold how David, in the second Psalm clearly points out the Messiah. In the Person of the Father he says, "Yet have I set my King upon my holy hill of Sion." And replies to it, in the second person of the Godhead; for in many of his Divine Hymns a sacred dialogue is carried on, through the Holy Spirit's inspirations of eternal knowledge: "I will preach the law, whereof the Lord hath said unto me; Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee."
