the rock of Ages shall its holy records stand unhurt, till Time is lost in all Eternity!

As " pure gold" it bore "the refiner's fire:" its sacred lessons, taught by our late venerable Monarch's great example, penetrated into his People's hearts.

Let the false Temple of Reason be thrown open; yet shall its holy dignity even there confuse, and disarm the scorner. And on its unhallowed ruins Christian faith shall unfurl her sacred banner, proudly wafted on the cheering breezes of the heavens.

Truth, Reason, and Revelation, are for ever united in the glorious pages of the Bible: and the daily history of mankind will justify the word of God.

O how glad the tidings of Salvation; O how bright the hope of merciful reward in our National prosperity! May we hand

down this eternal lesson to our children's children; and people, yet unborn, proclaim the great Redeemer's Name: for of Him only

cometh our Salvation!

How frequently our Saviour Jesus Christ addressed Almighty God as his Father, is well known to all believers. From Him alone he declared that he derived, as a man, the

great power of working miracles; and that to do His will was He himself sent down from heaven.

For all men had come short of the glory of God, through the infirmities of our nature, labouring under the curse of eternal death. Nor will that sentence seem unjust to those who look into their own hearts; when they consider that God's justice is as unchangeable as his nature, and ineffable attributes.

Can we, in our very minds, acquit ourselves? Would to heaven, my brethren, it were possible! But thanks be to God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, that upon His merits humble faith may fix a hope of pardon. And how infinite are those merits, to which the sins of all the countless generations of mankind are found unequal in the balance!

It was by perfect obedience that the Son of God accomplished the great work of our Redemption. By perfect obedience, therefore, to all God's commandments, we ourselves shall best lay claim to any benefit of His all-meritorious sacrifice-we may, we ought to strive to act uprightly.

"The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone in the corner. This is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes."

Isaiah's prophecy of the Nativity of our Saviour not only shews his miraculous Birth, but as plainly sets forth his Divinity. Let us compare the prediction, and the accomplishment; between which seven Centuries, a little Eternity of human life, intervened: and which period only adds strength to the proof of its eternal Truth.

"A Virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good. For before the Child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good; the Land that thou abhorrest shall be forsaken of both her Kings."

The latter part of this prediction was first accomplished; in part, by the Ten Tribes. being carried away captive by Shalmaneser : and by the Kingdom of Israel being thereby utterly overthrown. And Jehoiachin was the last King of Judah; which at our Saviour's Nativity was a Province of the Roman

Empire, governed by Herod the Tetrarch, a tributary ruler of Judea.

Hear St. Matthew's account of the coming of our Lord Christ. "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: when as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example; was minded to put her away privily. But while he thought on these things, behold, the Angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying; Joseph, thou Son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a Son, and thou shalt call His Name Jesus; for He shall save his people from their sins."

Let me here remind you that Jesus means Jehovah the Saviour; being compounded of Jah, the short for Jehovah, as David uses it in the Psalms, "Praise him in his Name, Jah;" and the Hebrew word for Saviour. It consequently means the same as Emmanuel, God with us: that is Jehovah, God, or the Lord, the Saviour with us.

And in full confirmation of my assertion the Evangelist thus continues his account of the Nativity. "Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken of the Lord by the Prophet, saying; Behold a Virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call His Name Emmanuel, which, being interpreted, is God with us."

St. Mark corroborates the account of our Saviour Jesus Christ being the Son of God; and as such acknowledged by his Almighty Father's voice from heaven; while the Holy Ghost descended upon Him, visibly, at His baptism.

This was a visible proof of the eternal existence of all the three Persons of the Godhead; and, together with our Lord's command to "baptize and teach all Nations in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost;" is a sufficient warrant for the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity in Unity.

It is worse than folly to deny that doctrine, so very distinctly set forth throughout Scripture. Which so expressly speaks of the Father as God, the Son God, and the Holy Ghost God.

As a Minister of the Gospel, and an Or
