ADDRESS.

(1.) The present Editor found, on looking at the Publishers' list, that a Christmas Number of the NAUTICAL MAGAZINE is usually published. He also found on inquiry of the oldest member of the staff, that a Christmas Number never had yet made its appearance. Looking to these two statements, and being in doubt, he determined to publish one for 1872. (2.) It is a pleasant way of bringing his first year's labours to a close, and it affords Subscribers an opportunity of judging of the lighter and more cheerful works of those gentlemen whose services have to a great extent been rendered in the more dry but not less useful work of the NAUTICAL MAGAZINE during the year. (8.) To his numerous supporters and Subscribers the Editor returns his sincere thanks, and judging by the fact that they have in one year quadrupled the circulation, he looks forward with interest and confidence to the commencement of his second year.

The

This number is not paged to run on with the volume for the year, and the cost is NOT included in the Annual Subscription of Twelve Shillings. Christmas Numbers will be paged separately to be bound together.

15, GREAT QUEEN STREET,

LINCOLN'S INN FIELDS, LONDON, W.C.,

December, 1872.
