He who possesses a sound understanding, will easily conceive that all his functions under the sun, in this transitory life, are vain and of uo value; notwithstanding he appreciates his existence, he must still acknowledge it to be only comparable to a shadow, and to enjoy the Eternal, he has cause to wish death and sacrifice his present life, sooner than prefer his short existence here; only for ever to condemn his soul, for having become untrue to her faith. It is the duty of every mortal to exercise his understanding, and to abhor all vanities in this life, even the callous man who sacrifices body and soul for temporal enjoyments, and though according to appearance it proves fortunate, should never be envied. The enlightened man, only confides in the Almighty Creator; to serve him with a pure heart, is the extent of his ambition, and to wander in his righteous path, in order to procure eternal bliss in the next world, where entrance is only permitted to those, who are thereto prepared.

The Law of Moses was given by GOD with thunder and lightning, with wonder and signs, notwithstanding it was presented to one nation only; yet, according to what the Sophists say, this Law is extinct and the Evangelic substituted as a new testament and a new covenant, whereof all the prophets speak, which covenant should even be united with the beasts of the field. We ask, is it possible to believe in a law given by a few men, without thunder, lightning, wonder or signs? No! the Law once received by the children of Israel, of the ALMIGHTY from heaven, that Law will be an everlasting covenant

tween them and their GOD. David praises this Law in Psalm cxix. 1. "Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the way of the LORD." Ib. 160." Thy word is true from the the beginning, and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever."
