H Hippolytus and his Age; or the Doctrine and Practice of the Church of Rome under Commodus and Alexander Severus. By CHRISTIAN CHARLES JOSIAS 281 History of the Reign of Philip the Second, King of Spain. By WILLIAM H. 569 Lady Holland's Memoir of Rev. Sydney Smith,. Life of Mrs. Sherwood, with Extracts from Mr. Sherwood's Journal,.. A Few Thoughts, etc. By CATHOLICUS,.. The Catholic Work of the P. E. Church in America,.. The Six Days of Creation; or Scriptural Cosmology, with the Ancient THE friends of this periodical, who are charged with the administration of its affairs, having been encouraged to renew or better their organization for the year now beginhing, an occasion seems to be given for an article introductory to the volume. Some things now to be said may seem to be a repetition, or at least a revisal, of what has been said before; but, without this, the introduction could not be complete in itself. This Quarterly was projected as an aid in the promotion of the Gospel in the Protestant Episcopal Church. This language, as to its object, may seem indefinite; for what religious publication, by members of our communion, would avow any other design? Of late, questions have arisen as to what is the Gospel as received by this Church. In regard to them, we are ready to take our position. We know that the supporters of this publication embrace men of various orders, than whom more honest, thorough, earnest, disinterested, and active friends of the Protestant Episcopal Church do not breathe. They are entitled to be heard. VOL. III.-1 |
