Mibil Obstat. JOANNES GRAY, Censor Deputatus. Imprimatur. PATRITIUS MORRIS, Vicarius Generales. EDIMBURGI : die 3 Junii 1926. THE Light of the World A BRIEF EXEGETICAL INTRODUCTION TO BY Very Reverend LEOPOLD FONCK, S.J. DOCTOR OF THEOLOGY AND PHILOSOPHY HEAD OF THE PAPAL BIBLICAL INSTITUTE, ROME Translated from the Second German Edition by E. LEAHY LONDON 15 KING STREET, COVENT GARDEN APPENDIX TO TRANSLATION THE situation in English-speaking countries with regard to the version of the Bible approved by the Catholic Church is different from that obtaining on the Continent. For the former there is one recognised standard (approved) version; for the latter there is no one such version. The version in question is the Douai. However, an entirely new version is at present in course of publication—the Westminster Version-being carried on by a group of priests under the editorship of Fathers Lattey and Keating, S.J. Two volumes have appeared, viz.: III. and IV., comprising the whole of the Epistles of St Paul. The Gospels have not yet been published. The C.T.S. have issued various parts of the Scriptures in very cheap little volumes. Each Gospel is 2d. The Acts, 2d., and so on. Father Martindale, S.J., has brought out an excellent little Introduction. The New Testament, C.T.S., 6d. There is no Catholic Harmony of the Gospels in English at present in print. There are two sets of school editions of various portions of the New Testament: (1) Madame Cecilia-each of the Gospels and the Acts; (2) by Father Sidney Smith, S.J., and others, “Catholic Scripture Manuals.” |
