OUR souls do magnify thee, O Lord: Luke i, 46, 47. our spirits rejoice in God our Saviour. Who remembered us in our low and lost* estates, for Psal. cxxxvi. 23. his mercy endureth for ever. By one Rom. v. 12. man sin entered into the world, and death by sin: we kept not the covenant of God, Psal. lxxviii. 10. and refused to walk in his law: for all Rom. iii. 23. have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; and judgment came upon all men to Rom. v. 18. condemnation. But blessed be the Lord Luke i. 68,69,70. God of Israel, that hath visited and redeemed his people; and hath raised up a mighty salvation for us in the house of his servant David : as he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began. A virgin hath Isa. vii. 14. conceived and brought forth: the Holy Luke i. 35. Ghost did come upon her; the power of the Highest did overshadow her; therefore the Holy One that is born of her, is called the Son of God. His name

Col. i. 15, 16, 17, our, which is Christ the Lord. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: for by him all things were created that are in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions, or principalities or powers; all things were created by him and for him, and he is before all things, and by him all things do 1 Cor. i. 24. consist. He is the power of God, and John i. 9. the wisdom of God; the true light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world. The Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us; and men beheld his glory, as the glory of the only-begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. For it pleased the Father that in him Gal. iv. 4, 5. should all fulness dwell. When the fulness of time was come, God sent his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that Matt. xvii. 5. are under the law. This is the beloved Son, in whom the Father is well pleased. For such Heb. vii. 26. an high-priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners. reviled not again, leaving us an example; who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree. For God laid on him the iniquity of us Isa. liii. 5, 6. all, and by his stripes we are healed. When we were without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly, the just for the unjust. In this was manifest the love of God towards us, that God sent his onlybegotten Son into the world, that we might live by him. Forasmuch as the children were Heb. ii. 14, 15. partakers of flesh and blood, he himself likewise took part with them: that he might destroy, through death, him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and might deliver them who, through fear of death, were all their lifetime subject to bondage. Having spoiled principalities and powers, he made shew of them openly, triumphing over them in his cross. He was buried, 1 Cor. xv. 4. and rose again the third day, according to the Scriptures: for God raised him, having Acts ii. 24. loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. He hath 2 Tim. i. 10. abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light by the Gospel. O death! where 1 Cor. xv. 55. is thy sting? O grave! where is thy victory?

All power is given him in heaven Eph. iv. 8, 11, and earth. When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men. And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors, and some teachers, for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ; till we all come, in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man. He is set at Eph. i. 20-23. God's right hand in the celestials, far above all principalities, and powers, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but in that to come. God hath put all things under his feet; and gave him to be head over all things to the Church, which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God manifested in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen of angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up 1 John v. 11, 12. into glory. This is the record, that God hath given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son: he that hath the Son hath life, and he that hath not the Son hath not life. He

was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not: he came to his own, and his own received him not. This is John iii. 19. the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil. But as John i. 12. many as receive him, to them giveth he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe in his name. There is therefore now Rom. viii. 1. no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. He forgiveth our iniquities; and will remember our sins no more. Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth; who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died; yea, rather that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. gave himself for us, that he might Tit. ii. 14. redeem us from all iniquity, and purify to himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works. If any man have not the Spirit of Rom. viii. 9. Christ, the same is none of his. He that nameth the name of Christ, must depart from 2 Tim. ii. 19. iniquity. If we regard iniquity in our Psal. lxvi. 18.
