a We have heard with our Ears, O God, our Fathers have told us, what Works thou didft in their Days in the Times of old.

For as the Earth bringeth forth her Bud, and as the Garden caufeth the Things that are fown in it to fpring forth, fo the Lord God hath caufed Righteoufnefs and Praife to fpring forth before all Nations.

[ocr errors]

The whole Earth is full of his Glory and Riches; and they that go down to the Sea in Ships, thefe fee the Works of the Lord, and his Wonders in the Deep.

The Lord is King for ever and ever, and his Dominion is an everlasting Dominion.

e He ruleth by his Power for ever; "Jet not the Rebellious exalt themselves:

f He is the Bleffed and only Potentate; the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords: The One Lawgiver, who is able to fave and to destroy.

Who hath given him a Charge over the Earth? Or who hath difpofed the whole World? Who teacheth like him? Or who hath enjoined him his Way? He worketh all Things after the Counfel of his own Will; and he giveth not Account of any of his Matters.

h Our Father which is in Heaven is perfect.

i Thine, O Lord, is the Greatnefs, and the Power, and the Glory, and the Victory, and the Majesty. Thou art very great, thou art clothed with Honour and Majesty.

* The Heaven is thy Throne, and the Earth is thy Footstool: Thy Name is excellent, and thy Glory is above the Earth and Heaven.

The Lord of Hofts he is the King of Glory; Honour and Majefty are before him; Strength and Beauty are in his Sanctuary.

The Lord is great in Counfel, and mighty in Word: The Lord hath done excellent Things; his Work is honourable and glorious.

The Work of the Lord is perfect; for all his Ways are Judgment.

The Law of the Lord is perfect; and all his Precepts concerning all Things are right.

Compared with other Beings

He is the ONLY GOD.

4

God is One; the Lord is the true God, he is God alone. The Lord our God is one Lord.

The Lord he is God, in Heaven above and upon the Earth beneath; there is none else.

"The Lord he is God; there is none else befides him: Before him there was no God formed, neither thall there be after him.

W

Though there be that are called Gods, whether in Heaven or in Earth; yet to us there is but One God the Father, of whom are all Things, and we in him.

* All the Gods of the People are Idols, which by Nature are no Gods. They cannot do Evil, neither alfo is it in them to do Good. For we know that an Idol is nothing in the World; and that a graven Image is profitable for nothing; and that there is none other God but One.

1

There is NONE LIKE Him.

Who is like unto thee, O Lord? Who is like thee, glorious in Holinefs, fearful in Praises, doing Wonders ?

* To whom fhall we liken God? Or what Likeness fhall we compare unto him? Or to whom shall he be equal?

4

[blocks in formation]

a Who in the Heavens can be compared unto the Lord? who among the Sons of the Mighty can be likened unto him?

Thou art great, O'Lord God, there is none like thee; neither are there any Works like unto thy Works.

Among the Gods, there is none like unto thee, O Lord; there is no God like thee in Heaven above, or on Earth beneath.

There is none like thee in all the Earth: Among all the wife Men of the Nations, and in all their Kingdoms, there is none like unto thee, O King of Nations.

God is not (as the Wicked think) altogether fuch an one as ourselves; for his Ways are not our Ways, nor his Thoughts our Thoughts: But as the Heavens are higher than the Earth, fo are his Ways higher than our Ways, and his Thoughts than our Thoughts.

f Forafmuch as we are the Offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto Gold, or Silver, or Stone graven by Art of Man's Device.

He is GREATER than ALL Things.

Who is fo great a God as our God?

Thou, whofe Name alone is Jehovah, art the most High over all the Earth.

The Lord our God is God of Gods, and Lord of Lords.

He is far above all Principality, and Power, and Might, and Dominion, and every Name that is named, not only in this World, but also in that which is to come.

m God is greater than Man.

It is he that fitteth upon the Circle of the Earth, and the Inhabitants thereof are as Grafhoppers.

"Behold, the Nations are as a Drop of a Bucket, and are counted as the fmall Duft of the Balance: All the Inhabitants of the Earth are reputed as nothing before him; and they are counted to him lefs than nothing, and Vanity.

• Who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompenfed to him again?

GOD is a SPIRIT.

God is a Spirit.

He is invifible; whom no Man hath feen, nor can fee at any Time; neither hath any Man heard his Voice at any Time, or feen his Shape.

ETERNAL.

The Lord he is the Eternal God, who liveth for ever and ever.
