D. CALDWELL, The affection of a brother had dedicated this volume (in manuscript,) to the late lamented Reverend James Brownlee of Falkirk. But he was cut off in his ministerial career, literally in the very pulpit, and left us in deep distress. He, who held the first place in my heart, is no more in the land of the living. I was denied the favour of inscribing his much loved name on this page. Next to him, an uncle's name claims my reverence. And the gratitude and affection, which your unwearied attentions to our beloved mother, your sister, have created in our hearts, constrain me to offer you this public expression of my sentiments. Accept, very dear sir, the assurances of our affection and reverence. I am your obedient servant and nephew, WILLIAM CRAIG BROWNLEE. |
